What are your primary responsibilities at Forge 53°?
I make sure each piece is prepped properly for the finish it’s receiving, essentially ensuring everything looks great by the time it leaves the shop.
How long have you been with Forge 53°, and what led you to join the company?
I’ve been with Forge 53° for about 2 and a half years. My woodworking job was coming to a close, and a coworker who had just started at Forge was raving about how incredible it was. After meeting the team and touring the space, it was a no-brainer—I was thrilled to join the team!
What do you enjoy most about working at Forge 53°?
I love that every day is different. You’re not stuck in a repetitive routine, which keeps things interesting and helps widen your skill set. I also love that decisions are made as a team, and everyone’s opinion is valued when making changes to a job.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?
I really enjoy sculptural woodworking—it’s something I’ve been doing for almost 8 years now, and my coworkers and bosses are my biggest supporters and advocates. I also love staying in and binge-watching the latest true crime documentaries on Netflix. - check out Jessy’s sculptures @rmandbrd
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I was a competitive speed stacker in elementary school. I know my way around stacking a cup or two! 😂 (Hold the applause, please.)
What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on at Forge 53°?
The project we just completed in Michigan. Not only did we get to travel, but I also felt like I really challenged myself and learned a lot through the grind. When we take on jobs at that scale, I always walk away feeling proud of myself and the team.
What motivates you to do your best work every day?
My attention to detail drives me. I always put myself in the client's shoes and ask, “Is this something I’d be proud to own?” I never settle for less than exceptional, and I hope that comes across in the level of craftsmanship we provide.
What’s your favourite book, movie, or TV show?
Bridesmaids or Superbad. They’re just simply too good!
What is your favourite chip flavour?
Spicy dill pickle, baby!!
